KL shares lower at mid-afternoon

Bursa Malaysia shares extended their losses mid-afternoon in tandem with bearish regional markets, dealers said. Selling pressure emerged in key heavyweights such as MISC, Petronas Gas and Telekom Malaysia and as of 3pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 14.30 points lower at 1,433.69.

Dealers disclosed that poor bond sales in Berlin had compounded fears of an escalating debt crisis in Europe which threatened the world economy.

Affin Investment Bank Head of Retail Research Dr Nazri Khan said the market was vulnerable to more selling, pressurising the FBM KLCI towards the 1,400 points level due to weak external market sentiment.
