Dialog eyes Petronas brownfield projects

PETALING JAYA: Dialog Group Bhd, an integrated specialist technical services provider to the oil and gas sector, is bidding for several projects under Petroliam Nasional Bhd's (Petronas) brownfields in Malaysia.

Dialog executive chairman Ngau Boon Keat said the company is bid-ing for the job with a foreign firm.

"Petronas is intensifying its marginal oilfield development and there will be more jobs in both upstream and downstream activities," he told reporters after the company's annual general meeting here yesterday.

He declined to reveal the tender value but it is understood that brownfield jobs can touch as high as US$1 billion (RM3.19 billion)

In August, Dialog said it was part of the second consortium Petronas picked to develop the Balai marginal oil cluster, off Bintulu in Sarawak.

Dialog holds a 32 per cent interest in the joint venture that will undertake the job.

Meanwhile, Ngau said the company is optimistic of its outlook regardless of the global economic conditions as it will be shielded due to its specialised services.

"The company is still smiling, maintaining tanks and other specialists jobs give us a recurring income," he said.

Its capital expenditure for last year was RM225 million while RM300 million this year is for tank maintenance activities.

By 2017, Dialog also is keen to double its investment to RM10 billion for the deepwater oil terminal project in Pengerang, Johor.

"We were the first to be there and as it progresses, it will draw more downstream activities such as oil refineries and petrochemical plants from other oil majors," said Ngau.
