MAS increasing weekly flights to Asean destinations

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 8): MALAYSIAN AIRLINE SYSTEM BHD [] (MAS) is increasing the number of weekly flights to several Asean destinations with effect from March 25, 2012.

MAS said on Sunday the flight frequency expansion was in line with its business plan where its network focus would be the core Asean region where its presence is the strongest.

The national carrier said it was also increasing the weekly frequencies to Beijing, Taipei and Los Angeles to cope with the expected increase in demand in the northern summer season.

MAS will have 21 weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Manila from March 25, while there would be additional flights for the KL-Phnom Penh, effective May 1.

For the KL-Jakarta route, there will be 42 weekly services. As for connectivity between Kuala Lumpur-Medan, it will be doubled with the addition of another weekly B737 service on Friday, making it two flights daily from that date.

As for the KL-Bangkok routes, MAS will also operate four daily flights effective March 25.

MAS added there number of flights to Beijing, Taipei and Los Angeles would also be increased.

From March 25, MAS’s current B777-200 operations to Beijing from KLIA will be doubled to twice daily.

MAS added the current three weekly flights MH 94/95 for KL–Taipei–Los Angeles and return on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday will be revised to operate four times weekly as flights MH 92/93 KL–Tokyo (Narita)–Los Angeles return on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

It added that with the implementation of the revised routing to Los Angeles and return, the Taipei-Los Angeles return sector wouldl be delinked from MAS’s network effective March 23.

PLUS set to issue RM30.6 bln sukuk, largest in the world

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 8): Projek Lebuhraya Usahasama Bhd (PLUS Bhd) is set to issue RM30.60 billion Sukuk to part finance the purchase of assets, liabilities, businesses, undertakings and rights of five toll concessions.

PLUS said on Sunday the sukuk issuance scheduled for Jan 12 would be the the largest global Sukuk and Malaysia’s single largest bond issuance to-date.

The Sukuk issuance follows the privatisation of PLUS EXPRESSWAYS BHD [] (PEB) – one of Malaysia’s largest privatisation exercises – and the restructuring of the toll concessions under PEB and Penang Bridge Sdn Bhd (PBSB),” it said.

PLUS added the concession agreements of these highways would be novated to PLUS Bhd, a unit of PLUS Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

PLUS Malaysia is an investment vehicle of UEM Group Bhd (51%) and Employees Provident Fund Board (EPF; 49%).
