Share prices on Bursa Malaysia rebounded in early trading today as investors expect some good news from the third quarter gross domestic product (GDP) growth announcement later today, dealers said.
Twenty-three minutes after the opening, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 2.76 points to 1,468.23.
The Finance Index rose 15.43 points to 13,089.31; the Plantation Index gained 19.45 points to 7,647.57; but the Industrial Index fell 0.38 of a point to 2,698.31.
The FBM Emas Index was up 12.95 points to 10,073.97, but the FBM Mid 70 Index shed 2.93 points to 11,003.82 and the FBM ACE Index eased 1.19 points to 4,265.26.
Losers led gainers by 138 to 116 while 154 counters were unchanged. Turnover stood at 2,093,449 lots worth RM77.158 million.
HwangDBS Vickers Research said investors are keenly waiting for the GDP growth announcement as it would give some insights on Malaysia's economy whether it was on track to meet the official 5.5 per cent full year growth forecast.
However, bearish external sentiments would probably force the benchmark index to slide towards the immediate 1,445 support level, it said in a note.
Actives, Frontkn lost half sen to 13.5 sen, Compugates was unchanged at eight sen but Envair rose 3.5 sen to 27 sen.
For heavyweights, Maybank and Sime Darby gained three sen each to RM8.33 and RM8.93, respectively, CIMB rose six sen to RM6.93, while Petronas Chemicals shed two sen to RM6.23. -- Bernama
