KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 5): The FBM KLCI edged up in early trade on Thursday but sentiment remained cautious as the New Year rallies at most regional markets fizzled out with the eurozone debt crisis returning to weight on investors’ minds.

At 9.05am, the FBM KLCI was up 2.62 points to 1,506.84.

Gainers led losers by 125 to 53, while 119 counters traded unchanged. Volume was 72.59 million shares valued at RM38.53 million.

Among the early gainers were Nestle, Timwell, United PLANTATION []s, Hong Leong Bank, HLFG, BHIC, IJM Plantations, Proton and SapuraCrest.

Meanwhile, JCY International Bhd was actively traded after the company said it was likely to record a surge in earnings for the quarter ended Dec 31, 2011.

JCY gained three sen to RM1.21 with 9.03 million shares done.

To cater for the increase in the component demands from the company’s major customers, JCY has allocated RM300 million over the next 24 months period to expand its facilities in Malaysia, Thailand and China.

CIMB Research ups JCY target price to RM1.54

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 5): CIMB Research has raised its target price for JCY International Bhd to RM1.54 and has a trading buy on the hard disk drive maker.

It said on Thursday that JCY issued a positive profit guidance for the December quarter that was even better than its already-above-consensus estimate.

“We believe that the positive earnings momentum will continue for at least the next two to three quarters and should catalyse a rerating of the stock.

“The favourable impact of a higher ASP, better product mix and stronger US$ prompts us to revise our above-industry forecasts again for FY12-14. This raises our target price to RM1.54, still based on 6.0 times CY13 P/E. Maintain Trading Buy,” it said.

RHB Research has trading buy on Proton, potential value RM5

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 5): RHB Research Institutes said while it had initially been sceptical on the possibility of a general offer, it now believes that Khazanah is looking to make a clean exit rather than having to deal with a residual minority stake if it were to sell a sub-33% block.

“Sale of Khazanah’s entire 42.7% will very likely trigger a general offer. Given national interest considerations, Khazanah will be obliged to conduct a thorough evaluation exercise to determine the suitor best positioned to add value to Proton.

“For sustainable long-term value to emerge, we believe a suitor will need to eventually involve a global OEM that can offer access to technologies, new platforms, engines and transmissions,” it said.

RHB Research said in its opinion, DRB-Hicom is the front runner although Naza could also put up a strong case, with both parties well positioned to involve a large global OEM, VW (DRB) and Kia or Peugeot (Naza).

“Our Trading Buy call on the stock imputes speculative premium by valuing the stock at 0.5 times P/B (30% premium to 0.39x) suggesting a potential value of RM5.00,” it said.

OSK Retail Research: Accumulate Takaso above 18c level

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 5): OSK Retail Research has advised traders to accumulate TAKASO RESOURCES BHD [] shares at above the 18 sen level and bet on an eventual breakout from the important long-term MAV line.

The research house said on Thursday that Takaso share price, after plummeting below the 200-day MAV line, has been consolidating sideways at below the moving average line.

OSK Research said the stock had since November 2011 experienced several failed breakout attempts at the 200-day MAV line accompanied by particularly high trading volume.

These attempts were supposed to push the stock beyond the moving average line, but somehow they met persistent selling pressure at this formidable resistance level.

On Wednesday, Takaso once again tested the 200-day MAV line with strong volume. There is a possibility that buyers may eventually overwhelm the sellers, resulting in a breakout from the moving average line.

“Because Takaso has been consolidating sideways at below the line for quite some time and it is still trying to crack above a critical long-term moving average line, a successful breakout would normally lead to lucrative rewards.

“Hence, we advise traders to accumulate the shares at above the 18 sen level and bet on a violation of the 200-day MAV line. Should this resistance line be violated, the upward momentum is expected to pick up strongly and might carry the stock to the 28 sen level, which is about the middle point of the “Long Black Day” created on Sept 6, 2011,” it said.

OSK Research said the cut-loss point is pegged at below the 17.5 sen level. From the current level, the immediate support is at the 17.5 sen to 18 sen level, followed by the 14.5 sen level.

“To the upside, beyond the 200-day MAV line, we are eyeing an additional resistance at the 25 sen level, followed by the 28 sen level. Meanwhile, the stock’s near-term technical outlook is obviously neutral and will turn bullish, once it manages to close at above the 200-day MAV line,” it said.
